As Sixth Committee Continues Debate, Speakers Still Divided on Whether to Codify Draft Texts Tackling Crimes against Humanity into International Convention
At this time in our history, it has become imperative to challenge the status quo. With the ongoing wars, genocides, degradation of peoples, diseases of stress and overworking, market-based meritocracy, and the push toward a hive mentality versus critical thinking, we must effectively challenge the dysfunctional aspects of Western society. To that end, we submit: The Modern Transcendentalist Movement.
While much of this plan aligns with Transcendentalism, there are deviations from the original Transcendentalist movement of the 19th century. Traditional Transcendentalism, as championed by figures like Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau, emphasized the individual's connection to nature, the pursuit of personal spiritual insight, and the rejection of societal conventions in favor of self-reliance and moral independence. The Modern Transcendentalist Movement must withstand a modern evolution to ensure that it does not meet the same fate as the original vision did.
The Modern Transcendentalist Movement encourages others to take a holistic approach to personal and collective transformation.
Participation in this movement stems from personal moral governance and a sense of collective unity. This philosophy, rooted in the original Transcendentalist belief in individual freedom, does not dictate behavior nor measure commitment based on participation.
This is what we advocate for those who want to embrace this philosophy:
The Modern Transcendentalist Movement encourages individuals to awaken to the deeper spiritual and systemic truths of society, actively dismantle oppressive structures, build decentralized and sustainable communities, and work toward collective liberation. It blends personal enlightenment with social responsibility, and while it encourages peaceful methods, it is not afraid to engage in more radical actions when necessary. Embracing this philosophy means being ready for both spiritual transformation and the hard work of systemic disruption, all while rooted in the values of justice, equity, and environmental stewardship.
